Absa Bank Botswana and UNICEF Botswana have launched a new two-year partnership focused on advancing child rights, workplace equity, and community well-being across the country.
Rooted in Absa’s citizenship and community investment priorities, the partnership brings together the bank’s reach and resources with UNICEF’s expertise in child-focused development. Together, they aim to promote responsible business practices that put children, young people, and families first.
The collaboration will centre on:
- promoting business and child rights
- integrating child-focused principles into ESG practices
- encouraging family-friendly workplace policies and gender equity strategies
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Gaborone, Absa Bank Botswana Managing Director Keabetswe Pheko-Moshagane said the partnership reflects the bank’s commitment to purposeful impact. She noted that working with UNICEF strengthens Absa’s role as a purpose-led bank contributing to national development goals and global child-friendly business standards.
UNICEF Botswana Acting Representative Dr Kimanzi Muthengi welcomed the collaboration, highlighting the important role businesses play in shaping the lives of children. He said the partnership sets a strong example of how the private sector can go beyond expectations to promote child-friendly workplaces, equality, and opportunities for young people in Botswana.
The agreement runs for two years, with the option to extend, and builds on ongoing efforts by Absa and UNICEF to empower women and youth. To date, their financial literacy initiatives have reached more than 800 participants nationwide.
Through this partnership, both organisations hope to create lasting change by strengthening protection, equity, and opportunities for children and young people, while setting a positive benchmark for corporate responsibility in Botswana.
