8 December 2021; Gaborone – Standard Chartered, Botswana’s first bank, further strengthened its position as Botswana’s leading digital bank and innovator with three (3) prestigious global banking awards in the last quarter of the year.
Building on the accolades of the preceding years, Standard Chartered has once again been awarded Best Consumer Digital Bank, Botswana by Global Finance Magazine in the 2021 edition of the awards. This accolade by Global Finance Magazine marks the seventh win in seven years by Standard Chartered. Winners were chosen based on the entries provided by financial institutions. Entrants were judged on breadth of product offerings; success in migrating customers to digital platforms; acquiring and retaining new customers; and the use of digital technologies to improve business processes, cut costs and deliver other benefits.
The Bank was further recognised by The Digital Banker as the Best Digital Bank – Botswana at the Global Retail Banking Innovation Awards 2021.
The Digital Banker continued to award Standard Chartered as the Bank won the Best Financial Inclusion Initiative in the same Global Retail Banking Innovation Awards 2021
The highly coveted global recognition has continued through the evolution of the Bank’s online and mobile banking platforms to the revolutionary SC Mobile app. Launched in 2019, the SC Mobile App is unrivalled in Botswana as the only digital banking platform that offers end-to-end account opening through a smartphone in just 15 minutes with the client’s debit card delivered to them at an address of their choice within 48 hours without the need to visit a bank branch.
The App offers over 70 banking services including Cardless Cash, Bank2Wallet, KYC updates, local and international transfers, and debit and credit card management amongst others with more being added at a rapid rate. Clients can apply for new products including additional accounts, personal loans and credit cards seamlessly at any time of the day on the App.
“winning such highly prized awards is hugely satisfying when we consider the investments of time, innovation and learning that continue to shape our digital disruption strategy. We know that we have the best digital platform in Botswana, its strength is in the interaction it has with our clients. They rightfully demand increasingly more from their day-to-day banking needs, and we are proud to rise to that challenge. We still have plenty innovation to offer and are confident to retain our global awards as we do.” Commenting on the awards, Mr. Oaipetla JJ Fantan, Head of Digital Banking and Partnerships at Standard Chartered Botswana.
