Stanbic Bank Botswana confirms the appointment of Dr. Tebogo T.K. Matome as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank effective 10th May 2023. Dr. Matome takes over from Craig Granville, who now retires from the Board.
Mr. Granville served as a member of the Board for 16 years. He was first appointed to the Board in 2007 and took on the role of Board Chairman in 2015, with a re-appointment for the same in 2020. His retirement comes as standard governance best practice, making way after an incredible tenure.
“We thank Craig for his service, and indeed for his pivotal role in shaping the legacy and strategic direction of Stanbic Bank Botswana in the 16 years that he served on the Board. There is no doubt that he brought tremendous guidance to shape the stature of this Board and the business in this time, with several notable milestones achieved in this period. For this, we are incredibly grateful,” said Dr. Matome.
Dr. Matome took on his role as Board Chairman effective 10 May 2023, having served on the Board since 2017. A well-respected leader, both in the industry and academia. He was the founding and former CEO of the Local Enterprise Authority (LEA), is a former CEO of the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) and a former Executive at Botswana Insurance Fund Management (BIFM). Dr. Matome has also held various Board appointments including being the Chairperson of Bokamoso Private Hospital, Maru-a-Pula School Governing Council, Vice Chairperson of the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA), Director at Botswana Telecommunications Authority (BTA, now BOCRA), the Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) and BCL, among others. Dr. Matome is also, since October 2021, Lecturer in Finance at University of Botswana.
