MultiChoice Botswana Launches YTV on DStv

MultiChoice Botswana announced that it is bringing local content to its DStv Botswana viewers, like never before. A free-to-air television channel built on the promise of bringing 30% local content, Ytv launches on DStv on Channel 291, joining BTV News, BTV 1, Gabz-FM, Duma FM and Yarona FM, as the latest local channel to enter onto the DStv platform.

“It has always been our mission to ensure that our DStv Botswana viewers have access to authentic local stories which resonate with them and feed their television viewing appetite for homegrown entertainment,” says MultiChoice Botswana Managing Director, Stephanie Pillay. “Ytv was an obvious choice for us when investigating where we could enhance our local content offering. The channel is built on the promise to not only tell local stories but to do it with content that is relevant, current and youthful. We look forward to bringing such to our valued customers.”

Speaking on this new development of his channel, Dumi Lopang, Executive Director of YMH Holdings said “We’re very excited to be joining the DStv family. This is an important development in the Ytv journey, from our humble beginnings as Gaborone Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in 1988 to this momentous occasion. Through skills transfer we intend to further develop Ytv into a premium entertainment channel worthy of its place on DStv. We also believe that this partnership will benefit the local creative industry as we give local content producers access to the largest entertainment platform on the content.”

As with the other local channels available on DStv, the partnership involves more than just providing local Botswana content on the platform but it affords the channel endless opportunities to grow its content offering through continuous engagement with experts in the content space who have worked on international channels and local channels alike. This provides local content owners an invaluable experience in developing content that resonates to not only local markets but to regional and international markets as well.

“We at MultiChoice Botswana have every intention of helping  Ytv enhance  its content offering, providing viewers quality shows that meets their standard of entertainment. It is therefore our responsibility to ensure that through Ytv, DStv Botswana subscribers are offered value for money television entertainment that meets and exceeds their television entertainment needs that rivals that of the other channels on the platform,” adds Pillay.

Ytv is now available on DStv Channel 291 from its entry-level package, DStv Pula, making it easy and convenient to access homegrown local entertainment from just P75 per month.
