In the true spirit of unity and impact, Mascom Wireless hosted yet another Mascom Batanani Walk community activation on Saturday 5th July 2025, at the BIUST Intervarsity Games in Palapye.
This activation marked a major milestone, featuring an on-site breast health screening clinic held in partnership with Journey of Hope Botswana (JOHB), as a lead-up to the annual Mascom Batanani Walk taking place on 9 August 2025 in Francistown.
Members of the public, sports participants, and the Palapye community had access to free breast screening services, comprising of palpations and ultrasounds for both men and women. A total of 76 individuals were screened on the day — 52 women and 24 men. Among these:
• All 76 underwent soft breast examinations
• 8 individuals were identified for further investigation and received instant ultrasounds on-site
• 7 females and 1 male were referred for additional testing via mammogram, which was successfully conducted the following week
This meaningful initiative aligns with Mascom’s long-standing commitment to Mobile Health, one of the six pillars of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy.
“As Mascom, we are deeply invested in Batanani because it represents more than a walk — it is a channel through which we deliver tangible support and improve access people’s lives and the communities. Mobile Health is one of our CSR pillars, and through Batanani Walk, we are contributing to national health equity,” said Ms. Anno Tshipa, Acting Chief Corporate Affairs Officer.
“By bringing breast screenings directly to communities, we help fast-track care, shorten waiting times, and take pressure off overstretched public health systems. This is our way of walking the talk — literally and figuratively.”
As momentum builds towards the main walk in Francistown, Mascom is proud to announce that the next activation will take place on 26 July 2025 in Letlhakane at Teemane, in partnership with Orapa GM’s Walk and JOHB. The activation will once again offer free breast screenings to the people of Letlhakane and surrounding villages, continuing the mission to step in unity against breast cancer.
The Mascom Batanani Walk 2025 will channel all proceeds to Journey of Hope Botswana, an organisation dedicated to breast cancer awareness, education, and support services across Botswana.
