GABORONE – The Board and Managing of Stanbic Bank Botswana are pleased to announce a strategic collaboration with the Gaborone Golf Club. The Bank will, as its latest and indeed most substantive sponsorship asset, take on the role of title sponsor of the Gaborone Golf Club (GGC). The 3-year agreement, inked on Tuesday the 29th of March 2022, will see the GGC become the “Stanbic Bank Gaborone Golf Club” (SBGGC), forging a partnership between the two entities into the long-term.
The GGC’s standing in the Gaborone and even National community – be it business, sport or otherwise, goes without saying. Many a game of golf and a momentous development has taken place on its greens, and this needs to be preserved and celebrated.
Said Stanbic Bank Acting Chief Executive, Christopher Gwere, “We are excited to share the good news about this initiative we have been working on for some time now, and even more thrilled to be able to get involved with such a heritage part of our heritage and indeed future in the heart of Gaborone. The project is close to our hearts, for this heritage establishment is just one example of the businesses so greatly affected by COVID-19. Now, we bring you the Stanbic Bank Gaborone Golf Club and another platform through which we continue to unlock possibilities for casual and professional sportspersons alike, including the youth and underserved. After all, Botswana is our home and we drive her growth; this is just one example of that in action.”
The union symbolises the importance of partnership in driving progress and igniting greatness; the celebration of a piece of history, heritage and culture; and the support of a sport that continues to breed masters, encourage engagement, and provide a new language for business and connection. It offers both entities a platform upon which to drive greater engagement with clients and stakeholders, unlocking value in a myriad of ways.
Said Itseng Kwalgobe, Captain of the Gaborone Golf Club, “This is a celebratory moment indeed, and a partnership for the ages. We are going blue, and excited for it! This is especially given the challenges we have faced as a club over the last few years. Due to the pandemic, we had to cut down manpower, put maintenance of key areas on hold, and even scale back or suspend activities due lack of finance and resources. We hope to see this change now, welcoming the return of the Club and community activities and ensuring upgrade of infrastructure and equipment. A unique and innovative example of commercial and community harmonised through corporate support, this sponsorship is one for the record books. We are proud to stand side by side with the Big Blue Bank!”
As Stanbic Bank recently celebrated 30 years of possibilities realised – 30 years since first opening its doors – the partnership comes as even more fortuitous, concretising a passion for delivering impact with purpose for 3 decades to date, and decades more to come. Through the union between the two entities, and facilitated by local business, Tiki Media Holdings, the partnership will see now only funding for the return of Club and community activities and upgrade of infrastructure and equipment. This includes but is not limited to revamping of the conference facilities, restaurant, and Club House.
Stanbic Bank has a long history of support for local community assets as well as sporting codes, including but not limited to sponsorship of such platforms as the Diacore Gaborone Marathon, the CANA Regional Swimming Championships, Township Rollers Football Club and more. The GGC sponsorship is the Bank’s largest sponsorship asset to date.
