Botswana’s Visa FIFA World Cup Competition Winners Set Off To South Africa

Excitement was in the air at the Protea Hotel in Gaborone today as football fans, media, and representatives from the Botswana Football Association gathered to celebrate the five winners of Visa’s FIFA World Cup™ Watch Party competition, before they departed for an unforgettable experience in Johannesburg.

The send-off event marked the culmination of a nationwide promotion that rewarded everyday Visa card usage with a chance to win an experience of the FIFA World Cup™ atmosphere alongside fellow fans. Each winner will travel to South Africa with three companions to attend Visa’s exclusive FIFA World Cup™ Final Watch Party on 19 July.

The all-expenses-paid experience includes accommodation, curated activities, meals, local transfers and spending money, creating what promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime football adventure. Winners will also travel in branded Hyundai vehicles as part of the premium experience, ensuring they reach Johannesburg safely in comfort and style.

As a proud sponsor and longstanding Official Payment Technology Partner of FIFA, Visa continues to connect football fans with some of the sport’s most memorable moments through exclusive experiences that bring them closer to the game.

Speaking at the send-off event, Amon Magunje, Country Manager of Visa Botswana wished the winners well, highlighting the brand’s broader commitment to supporting football. “We are delighted to celebrate our winners as they embark on this exciting journey to South Africa, where they will join fellow supporters for what promises to be a spectacular FIFA World Cup™ Final experience. Football has a unique ability to bring people together, and this experience reflects the power of sport to create lasting memories across borders, and Visa is proud to facilitate this opportunity.”

The campaign also highlights the strong connection between Botswana and South Africa, one of Southern Africa’s busiest travel corridors. The two countries share a long-standing relationship built on trade, tourism, and commercial partnerships, making travel between the neighbouring nations a routine part of life for many residents.

Visa is committed to enhancing the cross-border travel experience by providing a frictionless, simple, and cost-effective payments solution.

“This competition demonstrates how secure and seamless digital payments can help unlock meaningful experiences beyond everyday transactions,” Magunje concluded. “Whether consumers are shopping online, travelling or making purchases abroad, we want Visa to be the trusted payment partner that helps make those experiences simple, safe and rewarding.”
