Access Bank Botswana Announces Changes to Its Board of Directors

Access Bank Botswana announces significant changes to its Board of Directors, reflecting its commitment to strong corporate governance and strategic leadership.

Ms. Lorato Nthando Mosetlhanyane, who has served as an Independent Non-Executive Director for a decade, retired from the Access Bank Board effective January 31, 2025. She has been an invaluable leader, dedicating five years as Board Chair and guiding the Bank through significant milestones.

Among her many accomplishments, Ms. Mosetlhanyane played a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth transition of majority shareholding in Access Bank Botswana Limited from ABC Holdings Limited to Access Bank PLC in November 2021. Additionally, in June 2024, she successfully oversaw the Bank’s compliance with the free float requirements, leading the strategic sell-down and divestment of 8.15% shares by Access Bank PLC, ensuring alignment with the Botswana Stock Exchange Listing Requirements.

Additionally, Mr. Joshua Benjamin Galeforolwe  also retired from the Board on January 31, 2025, after years of dedicated service to the Bank. Mr. Galeforolwe has played a critical role in guiding the Bank’s governance and strategic direction, notably serving as Committee Chairman of the Board Governance, Nomination and Remuneration Committee.

Mr. Boiki Mathema Wabo Tema, is the newly appointed Access Bank Board Chairman, effective February 1, 2025. He has over 24 years of experience in the banking sector, having held senior leadership positions at First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) and Rand Merchant Bank Botswana (RMBB).

Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Tema stated, “Strong leadership is the foundation of Access Bank Botswana’s ongoing growth and transformation. I am honoured to take on this role and look forward to collaborating with my fellow Board Members to advance the Bank’s strategic vision while upholding the highest governance standards. I also extend my gratitude to our outgoing Board Members, Ms Mosetlhenyane and Mr Galeforolwe for their invaluable contributions.”
