When you bring together the best local musicians and celebrities, a quality production, the beautiful streets and people of Botswana, what do you get? Channel O’s latest music video countdown show, Bots Top 5 hosted by none other than the ever-charismatic Mduduzi ‘Mdu Tha Party’ Madzwamuse.
Launching on 24th May 2023 at 22h00 on DStv Botswana’s Channel O (Channel 320), Bots Top 5 will offer viewers unrivaled music entertainment. Each week the show’s host will indulge viewers with 5 of Botswana’s hottest music videos and interview some of the masterminds behind them. Viewers will also experience Botswana like never before, when Mdu Tha Party takes them across different parts of Botswana to meet the locals and talk about our country and its people.
Mdu Tha Party has fast become a household name, tackling radio and television with his uncanny knowledge of music and television. Mdu has spent over a decade in the entertainment history with his most unforgettable impact as an on-air presenter on Yarona FM and now back on RB2 where he hosts the “A Hundred Percent Show” which airs Mon-Thurs from 6-9pm. Mdu is also well-known for his incomparable MC-ing capabilities with his most recent large-scale gigs being the Welcome Celebration of the Forbes 30 Under 30 Summit and the Finale Awards Ceremony for the Department of Broadcasting Services Roadshow.
“We are ecstatic to announce the launch of Bots Top 5, the first of its kind for Botswana on the DStv platform, and we’re equally excited to have Mdu taking the reins on what we believe is going to be an unforgettable piece of work for the channel and for Botswana,” says Stephanie Pillay, MultiChoice Botswana’s Managing Director. “With Mdu’s extensive experience in the entertainment industry coupled with his undeniable knowledge of Botswana music, culture and talent, we are certain that he will do the show justice.”
A concept borne out of MultiChoice Group’s drive for more local content across all its markets, Bots Top 5 will be produced by HUB TV, a Botswana owned and operated production company. “We believe that Botswana certainly has the capabilities to produce content that is of world-class standard,” said Pillay, “and having seen the pilot episode of this production, I am confident that the rest of Africa will finally get to see what we are capable of. Our only hope is that this is the beginning of more opportunities not only for the artists whose videos will air on the show but for the production company and the show’s host.”
As the 10-episode show continues its production, MultiChoice Botswana has also released a call-for-submission of local music videos for an opportunity to be featured on Bots Top 5. Video submissions are to be made to Channel O by submitting a YouTube link to any local music video to music@multichoice.co.za, using the hashtag #ChOxDStvBots as a reference/subject line. “The intention behind this call-for-submissions is to not only have this process be as transparent as possible, but to also create an opportunity for undiscovered and unknown artists to have the rest of Botswana, and Africa at large, experience their talent.”
Local artists who submit their videos for Bots Top 5 should expect feedback on the selection of their music video from the Channel O team within 2 weeks of submission.
