Limpopo Province Unplugged

province bordering Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. It’s known for bushveld and wildlife reserves, including part of Kruger National Park.

Polokwane, formerly Pietersburg, is the provincial capital. Limpopo is known as the place of peace and friendliness. As a traveler, there’s so much to do in this province.

With our two nights’ stay at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World, we were able to zipline at Magoebaskloof Canopy Tour, pander at the Bakone Malapa Northern Sotho Open-Air Museum, which offers visitors further insight into the Bakone people.

Quite enthralling also was a stop-off at the Zwakala Brewery (‘come closer’). Established in 2016, Zwakala is an independent & proudly South African craft brewery.

We were also happy to pass by the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) headquarters at Zion City Moria – one of the largest African-initiated churches operating across Southern Africa.

The church continues to plough back into the Botswana community after they built a P10 million clinic for residents of Mmopane Block 1 and near-by villages, and just recently they donated an ambulance.

During our trip, we were happy to learn that Tzaneen, still in Limpopo produces about 40% of South Africa’s avocados, 40% of South Africa’s mangoes and 20% of South Africa’s bananas. Tzaneen also produces 90% of South Africa’s tomatoes through the ZZ2, and other, farms making South Africa the world’s 40th largest tomato producer.
