Content Showcase with a twist

Media, influencers and content creators talk DStv at MultiChoice Botswana media brunch

Every once or twice a year MultiChoice Botswana brings together media and social media influencers for an in-depth introduction to some of the latest and upcoming content available on DStv as a way to showcase its offering. This year MultiChoice Botswana decided to host their Content Showcase a little differently by bringing together some of Botswana’s top social commentators to share their thoughts and reviews on DStv and Showmax content at the Real TV Critics of BW brunch.

“It’s undeniable that content, particularly television and streaming content is a consistent topic of discussion on social media platforms,” commented Lorato Mwape, MultiChoice Botswana Managing Director. “On any given evening you can log on to Twitter and get a play-by-play review of popular series, movies, sport, and just about anything that is available on television. We wanted to bring this to life by hosting this brunch with some of the people we know are constantly on the ball when it comes to content. Our consumers are the reason we are in business and so it’s important for us to get as close to their opinions and views as possible.”

Held at the cozy, green and homely venue, The Conservatory Botswana, the media brunch was a delightful mix of casual, informal and authentic conversation from genuine television lovers, brunch, refreshments and a peek into what is coming on DStv and Showmax. Sitting on the panel were lifestyle content creator, Girlie Made Me, social commentator and Media Manager for BTV, Kris Bareki, social media influencer, Dr. Phil, and digital marketer and filmmaker, Seneo Mabengano. Hosted by MultiChoice Talent Factory alumna, Lorato Orapeleng, the panelists shared and discussed their preferences when it comes to some of DStv and Showmax’ most popular shows such as The Wife, The River, and Living the Dream with Somizi, whilst also discussing their honest thoughts on the state of local content in Botswana and what the local creative industry needs in order to grow.

“We are well aware that local content is something that our viewers in Botswana yearn for. Over the years we’ve tried our best to bring on more local content onto our platform with the onboarding of channels such as NOW! TV (DStv Ch 298) as well as our audio channels, GabzFM, Duma FM and Yarona FM,” said Mwape. “We’re hoping that through some of the discussions held at today’s event, Batswana will start to consume the great content available on NOW! TV and BTV, so that we can see our local creative industry grow and eventually reach international audiences. Consumption needs to start here at home.”

MultiChoice Botswana also shared some of their newest and soon-to-be released content which is in line with their pledge to bring Batswana viewers the best in international and Pan-African content. Hot new shows such as Sangoma Khanyisa on Honey (DStv ch 173), sees well-known on-air personality, Penny Lebyane, sharing the stories of desperate people who are looking for answers to their problems. With the help of a renowned traditional healer, Mkhulu Rametsi, they venture into the spiritual realm to find out if anything or anyone might be the cause of their sorrows. Sangoma Khanyisa airs on Honey on Thursdays at 17h30.

Fresh from the US, M-Net (DStv 102) brings viewers the highly acclaimed miniseries, The Offer which tells the behind-the-scenes story of the making of The Godfather. The 10-episode event series reveals a fascinating story about the journey to bring this iconic mob drama to the big screen. Premium subscribers can catch it on Mondays at 22h30.

For those who prefer streaming their content via Showmax, brand new episodes of the very controversial Living the Dream with Somizi (Season 5) are available weekly with drama galore and enough excitement to keep viewers glued to their screens.
