SKY Girls Botswana and Miss Botswana visit Red Cross Rehabilitation Centre

On the 25th of July 2023, SKY Girls BW organized an event where they brought together various stakeholders to go and give an all-encompassing talk at Tlamelong Rehabilitation Centre.

The 2 hour engagement was organized by SKY Girls BW, a behavioral change program formed by the Dialogue Group directed at adolescent girls between 12-19. You can follow @skygirlsbw on all social media platforms and their YouTube, where they have recently launched an edutainment podcast for their audience of girls to learn more about social issues and other topics that interest them.

Tlamelong Rehabilitation center is facility under Botswana Red Cross society in Botswana based in Tlokweng Village. Tlamelong is an organization striving to give the marginalized population of young people with disabilities in Botswana with an opportunity to strive socially and economically in their communities.

SKY Girls BW recruited the current Miss Botswana c to share a brief message on confidence and purpose with the young women present between the ages of 17-25+.

Present was also Vivie A, a radio presenter at Yarona FM who also works under the DREAMS programme. Vivie shared information about SRHR; specifically, the rise of new cases of HIV/AIDS in Botswana and how to protect oneself from contracting the virus, as well as how to use both the male and female condoms.

Joining the fantastic panel of speakers, the team was joined by Mrs. Pelotlhomogi, a civil servant and a volunteer at the special Olympics, who recently led a team of differently abled children to the Special Olympics in Germany. Mrs. Pelotlhomogi emphasized the importance of having more engagements such as these and involving parties who are also not living with disabilities so that they can gain awareness on how to be a brother and sister to those living with disabilities. Follow Special Olympics Botswana to join the movement and find out how you can help.

Red Cross Society is seeking donors to help in any way possible, from infrastructure to small toiletries.
