Red Bull Dance Your Style, took over Botswana from the 27th – 29th of September with Red Bull Dance Your Style events across 4 locations in Gaborone.
Red Bull Dance Your Style delivered on their promise to bring through an exciting lineup, featuring the best in Red Bull Dance Your Style talent – such as Durban-based dancer Senzosenkosi Bhengu, known as ‘Verb’ – who won the 2023 Red Bull Dance Your Style, as well as ‘Junior King’ (runner up) hot off the heels of the SA finals in Durban. The lineup also included the best in local Botswana dance talent such as Mike ‘Bleq’ and Prince also known as ‘UltraKluch’ battling it up on the dance floor.
The activations were set up at 4 different locations in Gaborone – the capital city of Botswana. No better place to introduce the globally renowned event than at the epicentre and heart of the country.
“I’m so excited to have welcomed the Red Bull Dance Your Style to Botswana. I love to see street dance being celebrated in Gaborone, especially because of how some of our dancers here have been getting more international recognition.” says Martha Leshetla who was also one of the dancers that took part.
The events consisted of a lot of cheer and excitement from audiences who also got surprise visits from Red Bull Athletes such as, Thabo Moloi, Brian Capper, Ryan Sandes and Giniel de Villiers.
“Botswana is a beautiful country with amazing talent – and it was awesome to meet other dancers in the City of Gaborone. Dance is more than just moving to the beat of music – and it plays a significant role in culture and expression, especially in the African context. For me, it was just amazing to experience the people of Botswana through a craft I love so much,” says Verb.
Junior King mentioned that Red Bull Dance Your Style has a lot in store for the community, as well as engaging the youth, and talent of Botswana. “We know this to be true because as a person from a small town in South Africa, Gqeberha, I know the difference the brand has had in my life and has provided us with the opportunity to enter global stage.
Red Bull Dance Your Style is a dance battle that brings people together in celebration of music and community, channelling the street party atmosphere from which street dance originates. The dance activations took place in the following locations: University of Botswana, Boisago University, Railway Park Mall and The Fields.
