Tebogo, Makwala, and Tsaone Sebele face off against international star athletes in historic meet
On 29th April 2023, history will be made when some of the world’s star athletes descend onto Botswana soil to participate in the first-ever Botswana Continental Grand Prix. Sponsored by FNB Botswana and broadcast across Africa on SuperSport, the Botswana Continental Grand Prix is this year’s second World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meet and it’s set to send athletics fans into a frenzy when the likes of Letsile Tebogo, Marvin Bracey, Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce, and more hit the National Stadium’s track.

Alongside local greats who will be setting the National Stadium’s track on fire, DStv Botswana viewers will also witness the likes of Kenyan superstar, Ferdinand Omanyala, Grenadian professional sprinter, Kirani James, and the young female powerhouse, Sha ‘Carri Richardson, who rose to stardom in 2019 when she ran a personal best of 10.75 seconds in 100m during the National Collegiate Athletics Championships (NCAA).
Speaking on the significance of this event, Tuelo Serufho, the CEO of the Botswana Nationals Sport Commission commented, “Botswana has been awarded the rights to host this meet for the next three years and we are confident that with the support of our sponsors, such as FNB Botswana and our broadcasting partners such as SuperSport, that we will only see this event gain strength in the next three years. This will help us do more for sport in Botswana. Ultimately, we want to see our athletes grow in their profession and for this to be a sustainable career for them, in the same way that it is a sustainable career for their international counterparts.”
For his part, the meet Organiser and Botswana’s first ever Olympic finalist Mr. Glody Dube stated that he is enthralled to see his vision from many years ago come into fruition. “This event started from humble beginnings and we are excited that finally Botswana joins the rest of the World as the only country in Southern Africa and 2nd in Africa to join the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold” DStv Botswana viewers on the DStv Family, Compact, Compact Plus and Premium packages will be able to witness this global phenomenon when the Botswana Continental Grand Prix airs live on SuperSport 4 on the 29th of April 2023 from 15h00.
