GABORONE, BOTSWANA – The adage good things come to those who wait could ring true for a trio of former local dancers in various groups and artists, as they are finally living their television dream. The trio Kefilwe Leonard (Kefus Leo), Kabelo Tiro (Skavanger) and Botshelo Mosweu (Girly) have started shooting for a brand new season of Botswana Television’s oldest music show, Mokaragana.
The show has even got a new time slot, as it beams from 6pm every Saturday. This is after a long dry spell since the departure of Kabelo Selelo and Atamelang Maromola.
The three musketeers will alternate weekly as co-presenters. The high-riding and multi-award-winning artist, Girly joins Btv on a high after she clinched two awards at the recent annual Yarona FM Music Awards (YAMAs). The talented and sultry singer scooped both ‘best female of the year’ and the ‘best kwaito female of the year’ awards.
Girly’s rise to fame comes as no surprise having worked with music heavyweights such as Vee Mampeezy, DJ SKI and Prez Beats among many.
Speaking to Botswana Unplugged from BTV Studios, Girly said Mokaragana has always been an empowering brand focused on uplifting unknown musicians and giving them a better platform to showcase their talent.
“I am also blessed to have been a beneficiary of this platform in my early years in the music industry that’s why I am now in a position to advice other musicians to take it upon themselves to perform on the Mokaragana stage as it can help establish and elevate their careers.”
Equally excited to be on the show, Kefus Leo said it has been a good few week shooting the show with her co-presenters and described them as good buddies in the showbiz industry.
“Personally, for me, it has been easy to adapt as Girly and I have been to the same primary school and I have seen her career grow. She became a phenomenal dancer and artist now so to go on set with her pleases me that indeed you can become what you want to be in life.
Skavanger, he has more energy and a bit crazy on the set. He is a leader amongst the three of us. It is going to be a long interesting journey and I am so excited,” she said
