BTC makes clarion call for submission of artifacts

GABORONE, Botswana, September 2020/ — To celebrate its four decades (40 years) of existence and the evolution of the local telecommunications industry and its contribution to the socio-economic development of the Nation, Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC) is encouraging Batswana to submit artifacts that depict the generational communication technology and the history of telephony in Botswana.

“It will be a collection of antique telephones and telephone memorabilia amongst other artifacts to educate Batswana about the history of telecommunications for a greater appreciation and understanding of the role BTC has played in supporting local economic development,” said BTC Corporate Communications and PR Manager Golekanye Molapisi.

The artifacts required are to be of telecommunication historic value and submissions can be made to any BTC store countrywide. Participants stand a chance to be rewarded for their submissions. The artifacts must comprise historical and technological inventions which the Company introduced in the past to help preserve Botswana’s heritage and history as it relates to telecommunications and the role the industry has played in transforming a young Nation.

Calling on all stakeholders to submit artifacts that capture the ever-changing local telecommunications landscape for the past four decades, Molapisi said, “Batswana are part of this great Company and we cannot tell the BTC story of enabling Batswana to live connected  without their input. We encourage Batswana to submit artefacts and through the submission of these artifacts we would be able to tell and preserve a rich historical heritage”.

BTC strongly believes that artifacts are a source of knowledge which help to preserve and promote cultural heritage.  “This is a special year for BTC, we are celebrating our 40th anniversary as the pioneering technology Company. It is critical that as we continue to work on new and innovative ideas for the future to keep Batswana connected, we also look back and reflect on how far we have come,” Molapisi said.
