JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, July 2020/ — In light of the current social inequalities around the world becoming a household conversation and the social responsibility being enforced by the masses to implement change, the topic of gender based violence has become a key conversation piece for many.
The Pure Heart Norm is a Youtube web series that aims at keeping the conversations around gender based violence a public one. Each week individuals come together from various walks of life to discuss and explore their experiences and thoughts on gender based violence within South Africa. The reality is that gender based violence happens everyday with 2930 women being murdered in South Africa between 2017 and 2018 and an average of 110 rapes reported each day.
The Pure Heart Norm exists to show and educate South Africans on the amount of damage gender based violence has on the lives of victims and their families. The show tries to change the narrative that victims have to suffer in silence and calls on South Africans to educate themselves on the topic of gender based violence. Episode one takes a look into the gender based violence experienced within the LQBTQI+ with a discussion between content creator and transgender activist Lea Grey, brand ambassador Modise Gubevu and events manager Yomi Papu.
