SOWA TOWN, BOTSWANA — The Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) in association with Parachute Association of Botswana (PAB) supported by BOTASH, Sowa Township Council and Tutume Sub-District Council collaborate every year to host Makgadikgadi Epic. The event slated for July 12th – 15th 2019 will take place in the premier and prominent Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, precisely, in Sowa Town.
Makgadikgadi is synonymous with awesome birding experiences and open natural landscapes that will be a marvel from any view, be it from the ground or above. Makgadikgadi has beautiful and breath-taking views, thus making it the best choice for skydiving.
Makgadikgadi epic promises adventure lovers who want to go skydive a different experiential activity in the Makgadikgadi. The main objective of the event is to give travellers to Botswana lifetime unique experience.
BTO is mandated to market and promote Botswana as a premier tourist destination of choice, to grade and classify accommodation facilities, as well as to promote Botswana as a tourism investment destination of choice, and the upcoming Makgadikgadi Epic is just one of those events that help the organisation promote and sell the Botswana tourism product to the rest of the world.
Makgadikgadi Epic is a social and sporting event for the domestic and regional tourism market including corporates, families, friends and adventure-lovers alike. The event feature sky-dive demonstrations as the main activity, but will also include other activities such as Tandem Skydives, Helicopter flips, Horse riding, Cycle tours, Go Carts and fun quad bike rides that are open to the general public and enthusiasts alike.
The setting is just right, amazing and truly breath-taking with well oriented tents and other serving marquees, one will truly forget they are out in the bundus. The camps are set behind the BOTASH conservation park which houses many wildlife attractions such as rhinos, flamingos and wildebeests just to name a few.
Through the Makgadikgadi Epic initiative, government is working on diversifying the tourism industry because Botswana tourism is not only competing with the region but with the international community for tourists.
The organisers, BTO makes sure visitors are settled in comfortably in tents decked with crisp linen beds and a handy, true camping style wardrobe. The food is immaculate, offering a buffet three times a day with the best African Cuisine and more meat than you can handle. However, they also cater in the best vegetarian dishes, salads and fruits.
Oh! Most importantly – this is a skydiving event and divers are spoiled over the 4 day duration with a CASA 235 tailgate that can accommodate up to 40 skydivers. This plane will be what we start off with for the first day, and to spice it up, the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) will throw in a Hercules C130 together with the Casa 235 for the next three days.
Spectators are treated to the spectacle of airborne skydivers as they are dropped from the sky when the Parachute Association of Botswana (PAB) and Skydive Botswana perform skydiving demonstrations throughout the course of the adrenaline-filled event.
The aim of here is to introduce skydiving to the general public as a recreational sport and highlight various ways they can engage with the sport. For more check out: http://www.botswanatourism.co.bw/makgadikgadi-epic
