Watch out Botswana, here comes Motlha – the latest Afro Jazz and RnB crooner, whose melodic creative has currently taken the country by storm. And it is absolutely no mistake that the young man is currently riding on the crest of a wave, he has truly and earnestly worked hard to be where he is today!
“A great musician has the right attitude. I rank attitude before talent, before technical ability, before practically everything else,” said Motlha Mompe this week.
Hailing from Mmadinare in the Tswapong District, Motlha won the popular Pop competition ‘My Star’ in 2015 and judging by his brand new and banging hit single dubbed ‘MmaMotse’, which continues to dominate the local airwaves, the talented crooner surely looks destined to conquer the world.
“I’m not really new in music. For me, the My Star competition gave me the much-needed platform and exposure. And for that I’m truly humbled.”
Winning the ‘My Star’ competition was truly a blessing for Motlha as doors started to open, the first being a chance to tour London, UK for two weeks in 2015, and performing at the London Carnival after recording a trio album alongside his runner ups.
He was also part of the African Spirit Carnival which was held in Cape Town in 2016, where he performed as a solo artist. Being a songwriter, Motlha recently wrote and immensely contributed to Slizer’s latest 12 track album ‘Ga kena molato’ which is a pure attestation of his versatility with any kind of genre.
Currently, Motlha has several recorded songs to his name and even though they have not yet made a break into the industry due to lack of funds, his hard work has seen him perform and share the stage with a few international music heavyweights such as Jika Boyz (SA), Muungu Africa (SA), Leon Lee (SA) and Element (RSA).
The ‘MmaMotse’ hitmaker has also performed alongside Botswana’s biggest heavyweights among them Charma Gal, Franco, ATI, Vee, Culture Spears and Dr. Vom. The organic growth of Motlha has seen him record a number of single hits that have reached top charts in local radio stations thus earning him a well-deserved followership on several social media platforms.
Motlha has also worked with a number of renowned producers in Botswana on different projects. Through these projects, he has attracted the attention of the internationally recognized and award winning record label, Roc Lefatshe Records.
To add to his many achievements, Motlha has recorded hits with artists from countries around the region including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Zambia and Lesotho. As a growing and influential young artist, Motlha has a large following of fans and strongly believes his influence continues to impact greatly on brands and purchasing choices of those brands by his fans and followers alike.
