The Good Radio Awards to reward and nurture good vibes

In news that is expected to thrill, the inaugural VIB Good Radio Awards slated for Masa Square Hotel this Saturday in Gaborone will not only be a glamorous affair but will also accord novices in the industry an opportunity to learn from their predecessors.

The first of its kind awards pioneered by former radio star, Jazzelle Kebakile will host a talk shop on the same afternoon prior to the dazzling night where broadcast legends from across the country are expected to share their fountain of wisdom with the current and new crop as well as other stakeholders. The fully-equipped seminar will be held at Masa Square Hotel in Gaborone where a number of seasoned radio personalities are expected to share their vast media industry experiences.

Tshepo Ntshole left Gabz FM this year after 17 years on air to look for more opportunities as well as explore other areas of her many talents.

Among the selected few is Tshepo Ntshole who is expected to give listeners a perspective of her vast radio experience from a woman’s motive angle under the theme “My journey with radio: woman’s story.” Ntshole’s inclusion comes at a time when local radio continues to be dominated by male counterparts.

“Ntshole is a former radio personality with over 15 years’ experience behind the microphone. She left the studio to give her brainchild company, Sixpence Management her full attention. She’s is also a well-known proficient MC,” read a communique from the organisers.

Another veteran is Owen Rampha alias Mr.O who will also be amongst the panellists at the upcoming radio seminar. The experienced House DJ is credited for unearthing raw talent at Yarona FM among them is the award winning radio presenter, DJ Izzy. Rampha has also moulded the likes of Drew Chadhall, Scar and Tshepi Ess among others.

“Mr.O is a seasoned Radio Programmer with footprints across Botswana and Zambia. He is also the managing director of Radioworx. He is expected to speak on ‘Radio in Botswana’ – from a seasoned practitioner’s Perspective.” In other news, the organisers have also roped in the experience of international radio industry expert,

Tim Zunckel. He is a renowned Radio Programmer, Talent Manager and a Creative. His experiences saw him work with international radio awards such as New York Radio Festival in the United States, Liberty Radio Awards in South Africa and Love Radio Awards in Ireland. Tim started his journey in the radio business in 1996 and currently works as a coach, mentor and programmer. His talent lies in broadcast management training, programming strategy and talent development.

This week, we saw a few Botswana radio personalities taking to social media platforms to solicit support from their listeners after the organisers announced that they have managed to secure sponsors for certain categories at the awards.

#BotswanaUnplugged suspects that the money bait is doing wonders in getting the personalities to talk more about the awards as they canvass support to clinch the coveted prize moneys, which will come in handy during the festive season.
