The much anticipated Masa Square Hotel (MSH) Fashion Show came to a spectacular climax this past Saturday at Gaborone’s Central Business District (CBD). The show, which was part of the MSH Fashion Mentorship Programme, saw 12 seasoned designers and 12 up-and-coming fashion star designers showcase their couture garments to Gaborone’s fashion elite as well as novices eager to consume great talent. As anticipated, the featured designers, models and make-up artists left many mesmerised by what they saw.
The show-stopping highlight of the evening was the announcement of Candida & Wedu Montsho of DihDah as the 2017 Masa Fashion Show Designer of the Year.
The coveted prize will see the husband and wife design duo awarded with a career defining, all-expenses-paid trip to Nairobi, Kenya, to showcase their latest collections at this year’s The Core Fashion Kenya.
The Kenyan fashion platform founded by Kenyan born Linda Murithi is exclusively produced by the prominent fashion show producer, Jan Malan and will be held on the 7th to 11th November 2017.
A lot of energy united to celebrate Botswana’s creative excellence along with prestigious institutional support from both international and local brands.
“As Masa Square Hotel, we have always believed in family and teamness. Collaboration with others has made this project possible – and indeed beyond just tonight but encompassing the entire fashion show campaign and developmental aspects. For this we are truly grateful and do look forward to continued partnership into the future,” said Masa Square Hotel General Manager, Greg Soutter.
Masa Square Hotel hosted a one-of-a kind fashion experience that saw the Masa Piazza transformed into a spectacular aqua-themed runway.
This year, the hotel upped the ante with a number of collaborations with industry heavyweights such the incomparable Jan Malan of Umzingeli Productions, the official fashion show producer behind the Saturday night’s outstanding set up.
Keeping with the theme “Working Together to Build Botswana’s Creative Industry,” creativity and collaboration were clear ingredients in bringing the stellar night together.
The hotel was fully committed to working with stakeholders from a variety of local industries in order to see the mentees uncover their crafts and individualities.
“The aim is for Botswana, and hopefully even the world, to see and celebrate this talent. MSH thanks all partners for their incomparable efforts. This includes: Ngwao Brand Architects and Audiotech (sound and technical direction); Madison (provision of foot wear); Distell Group (beverages); MAC Cosmetics (make-up); Hair Essentials and The Make Over Place (hairstylists); Collezione (clothing voucher worth P2,000); LightBox Photo Booth; Audi (luxury transport); and Benju (official beverage distributor for the second year running)”.
“I would like to give a big thanks to our partners that came on board to make this entire project and indeed this night one to remember. It is through collaboration that we are able to have a greater impact in improving our communities, ensuring that our youth-owned businesses which form a significant part of our business community, have the support to ensure we continue to grow as a community and a nation in the years to come, growing our talent ever more,” added Soutter.
