The prolonged uncertainty that recently clouded the start of the 2017/18 soccer season has finally come to an end this week. Reigning champions, Township Rollers will kick off the start of the BTC Premiership season on the 18th September when they visit newly promoted Debswana First Division North League (DFDNL) champions, Tafic at the Francistown Sports Complex.
The Botswana Premier League (BPL) and sponsors BTC have agreed on a three year deal to the tune of P39 million with a charity tournament forming part of the new deal. Speaking at the sponsorship launch this week, BPL Board Chairman, Rapula Okaile confirmed that Rollers and Tafic will kick off the league, which is expected to be big and better.
“We have set the 23rd September as an opener to the start of the league in Francistown and we promise the sponsor that this season will be interestingly bigger and better,’’ said Okaile.
While the sponsor is said to be assisting with grants, Okaile said they appreciate all efforts by the sponsor in assisting clubs to become formidable forces. Okaile further cautioned clubs to account for every Thebe spent.
“We are excited that the league will kick off shortly but most importantly we should be thankful that the sponsor has agreed to assist clubs with grants to be used with the daily running of clubs,’’ said Okaile.
