Local art, culture, cuisine and music will take centre stage at the inaugural Yarona FM Summer Jamboree to be held at the end of the month. The lifestyle event hosted by Botswana’s first privately owned FM commercial broadcasting radio station with the radio frequency 106.6, will be held at Molapo Crossing’s Stanbic Piazza in Gaborone on March 25, 2017 and promises to be the epicentre of the best of local talent from all walks of life.
Yarona FM Station Manager, Kelly Ramputswa said the objective of the event is not only to celebrate summer but also to push local talent to the forefront. “We have created a legacy of being the home of local talent. For the last 18 years, we have helped contribute to the growth of the music industry. We have contributed to the growth of all the other art forms by giving a wide platform for artists, creators, designers and musicians to be heard,” said Ramputswa.
Furthermore, Ramputswa noted that in coming up with the Summer Jamboree event, the urban youth radio station aims to continue to extend the support they give to all arts industries.
“The Summer Jamboree will be a live event where people are able to see the musicians who play music on our radio station, while feeling and seeing the fashion we speak about and tasting the food we feature on our various shows. As a youth radio station, we have an obligation not only to entertain our demographic but to also help promote youth businesses and that is what the Summer Jamboree is all about,” revealed Ramputswa in a communique this week.
The Summer Jamboree will be held in partnership with Stanbic Bank Botswana while Abari Communications will provide free Wi-Fi throughout the event. Other partners include Native Events, Webtickets and The ECHO newspaper.
According to the organisers, stalls will also be available for exhibitions and sales to members of the public attending the event. Ramputswa added that as a young and vibrant radio station, they want to attract a youthful and pulsating crowd that appreciates the best of art, food, fashion and music.
“Our objective is to be more than just a radio station. We want to influence the lives of our audience who are usually fun loving and aspirational. So as a brand, we will be doing a lot more engagements that enhance our audience’s lives from a fun to a business perspective.”
The show will have the best and hottest of Botswana music on the line-up including some of the current chart toppers such as the well-liked songbird, Amantle Brown and the South African-based Botswana rapper, Veezo whose “Zaka” hit single is currently getting a lot of air play in the country.
All tickets will be sold at Webtickets.
