Acacia mall, the home of Gaborone’s first Nando’s drive-thru

GABORONE, Botswana, October 2019 – In a truly PERi-celebration, Nando’s Botswana yesterday (Wednesday) hosted a launch event for its brand new casa (branch) in Acacia Mall, situated in the plushy suburb of Phakalane, Gaborone. The casa serves as the first drive-thru Nando’s for the Capital City, and signals a relocation of the previous Mowana Park home. Friends and family of Nando’s Botswana came together for a true Casa Party to commemorate the occasion.

Guests were given a sneak peak into the Festive menu, with the new Galaxy and Oreo milkshakes being served. International appetizers were available just for the night as a special treat for guests.

“We are thrilled to now open our doors to friends and families of Nando’s in the heart of Phakalane, a drive-thru that aims to bring as much convenience as it does flavour, and which allows us to serve a much wider catchment. The investment – both monetary and time – we have put into this new Casa has been great, as we are confident residents of the area, and those passing through, will truly enjoy their experience with us. All 45 of our staff for the Casa have undergone thorough training and skills development, and are ready to impress, delivering the quality of cuisine we have come to be known for in our 26 years in Botswana,” said Maipelo Moatshe, Head of Marketing at Nando’s Botswana.

Activities were also more flavourful courtesy of local media being taken through the Nando’s Botswana relationship with Oodi Weavers, which continues to grow. This was by way of a site visit to the renowned crafting community earlier in the day. Nando’s has previously commissioned a number of tapestry works from Oodi Weavers as high profile gifts, a testament of the high regard in which the weavers’ work is held. Nando’s has also donated furnishings and furniture from the now-closed Mowana Park Casa to Oodi Weavers.

“This has been a dually wonderful day as we celebrate not only the new Casa, but pay due homage to the incredible work of Oodi Weavers as part and parcel of the fabric of Botswana, and a community of talent we are privileged to support. In doing so, we are also pleased to have been able to donate furniture for their use as well, and encourage Batswana to continue to shine a spotlight on the amazing work the weavers do,” added Moatshe.

The Acacia Mall casa will open as follows:

  • Monday: 10h00-22h00
  • Tuesday to Thursday: 09h30-22h00
  • Friday and Saturday: 09h30 to 23h00 on Friday and Saturday
  • The drive-thru in particular will be open for 24 hours Thursday to Saturday.
