GABORONE, Botswana, June 4, 2019/ – A health and fitness club based at Modipane village in the Kgatleng District Council dubbed Modville Fitness Club is pulling all the stops as it prepares to host its 4th Annual Wellness Day, which aims to raise funds for various community projects slated for June 15th.
The daylong activities will include among others aerobics, 5-aside soccer tourney, a mini boot camp, and 10km bushwalk in some of the Modipane historic sites as well as a fitness challenge including fun games for kids.
The organizers are also using the wellness day as a build up to the upcoming Jwaneng Desert Bush Walk slated for next month (July).
Health and fitness continue to be the main ingredient in curtailing some of the leading lifestyle diseases, and as such is largely encouraged by government who is grappling with rising health costs.
Modville Fitness Club Wellness Day Chief Organizer, Gavin Makgatlhe says his club continues to acknowledge the understanding Batswana have towards maintaining heathy lifestyles whilst giving back to the community.
“The patronage we received has been overwhelming over the years. We started this club just to keep fit, however when different mind-sets came together we thought of giving back to charity hence we conceptualized this charity walk. We have impacted the community of Modipane in so many different ways such as through our contribution towards the building of the Modipane kgotla shelter, refurbishment of the local post office, donation of clothes to the underprivileged, various cleaning campaigns both through exercise and trainings,” added Makgatlhe.
Furthemore, Makgatlhe said the club continues to benchmark from various charity walks such as the Jwaneng Desert Bush Walk and the Cycling for Cancer organized by Joy Foundation in Jwaneng and Mochudi respectively, so as to continuously run their mandate professionally.
Makgatlhe said their brainchild event has further sparked interest from individuals, clubs and other groups who have participated in their sessions and are also eager to start similar projects in their varied communities.
“The event has grown in leaps and bounds, tremendously so, over the years thus attracting a good number of participants. This year we expect more than 250 people because of the various activities we have added to the day. The concept was born four (4) years ago as we realized we needed to impact on the community lives by being compassionate which was in line with the pillars of Vision 2016 and we still carry through with the course onwards.”
Among this year’s Chief Guest walker is Donald Koogotsitse who will he accompanied by singer Magdelene Lesolebe popularly known as Charmagal. Koogotsitse is a Motivator, Youth Development Practitioner, Entrepreneurship and Leadership Trainer while CharmaGal despite her busy musical vocation has become an avid fitness fanatic.
“Normally when we choose our chief walkers we look at different profiles and it should be someone who can later positively impact our participants in various ways, so Koogotsitse is such a fitting example. He inspires and motivates the masses as he is an entrepreneur, motivator and fitness enthusiast, same as CharmaGal whose availability can mean a lot to aspiring artists.”
