GABORONE, Botswana, March 27, 2019/ — The Delegation of the European Union in Botswana, in association with Young Africa Botswana, is proud to present the “Making TVET Cool” Communication Campaign, with the official launch, billed for Friday 29 March, 12 – 3 pm at the Lady Olebile Masire Youth Centre.
The Campaign aims to change the youth and the general public’s perception towards Technical Vocation Education and Training (TVET).
“The value of TVET to the economy is largely underestimated and often misunderstood, with many people considering it a last resort for career options and job creation. This initiative will highlight the benefits of TVET through various activities, such as highlighting success stories within the TVET industries (namely TVET Champs); facilitating panel discussions with relevant stakeholders from ministries, the corporate sector, and educational institutions; and interacting with young people, including students, through an engaging series of theatre performances in local schools and common public areas nationwide.”
Furthermore, the statement highlighted that, “The Campaign will interact with educational institutions in and around Gaborone and run online, print, radio and television infomercials throughout 2019, before engaging in a nationwide tour in January 2020. The Tour will visit major towns and cities, including Lobatse, Palapye, Francistown, Maun and their surrounding areas.”
Performances will be in traditional public assembly areas (Kgotla), malls, schools, community halls, bus ranks and other common spaces where the public could be educated on the possibilities and potential of TVET in an entertaining and engaging manner.
The campaign will be launched on March 29, 2019 at Young Africa Botswana’s Lady Olebile Masire Youth skills Development Centre in Gaborone West from 12:00 to 3:00 PM.
His Excellency, Jan Sadek, Ambassador of the European Union to Botswana and SADC, together with Young Africa Botswana team, and patrons of the campaign from the corporate sector will officiate at the launch.
In attendance will be members of the business community, the youth and local artists. The campaign is sponsored by the European Union under the 11th European Development Fund (EDF 11).
