Multichoice Talent Factory opening relives on Zambezi Magic

GABORONE, Botswana; With the end of 2018 fast approaching, it brings the ideal time to reflect on the highlights of the year.  For MultiChoice, the past year was an important one due to the historic launch of its regional TV and film talent incubator, the MultiChoice Talent Factory. 

To recall this special memory, audiences in Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe can relive this ground breaking moment with a special broadcast of the MultiChoice Talent FactoryAcademy (MTFA) launch on Zambezi Magic (DStv Channel 160) at 19:00 CAT onThursday, 13 December 2018. 

The MultiChoice TalentFactory (MTF) is a multi-tiered training programme designed by MultiChoice to igniteAfrica’s creative industries across the technical and professional value chain within the film and television industry.

MTF reached its first milestone in October this year, with the inauguration of the MTF Academy, which took place at the Zambian Institute ofMass Communication (ZAMCOM) in Lusaka. Berry Lwando, MTF Academy Director for the Southern Region commented: “Through the MTFA, MultiChoice is in the process of equipping a group of 20 selected students with a solid foundation to launch a successful career in Africa’s creative industry, and make their mark in African storytelling”.

These students hail from Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia respectively.

Mosibudi Pheeha, Channel Head forZambezi Magic mentioned that the special broadcast is an opportunity for audiences to relive the incredible excitement and significance of the MTF Academy Opening Gala.  “In line with our offering as a hyper-local channel, we provide a mix of locally produced content for markets in Southern Africa.  We look forward to seeing the fruitful outcome of this milestone event in coming years”.

The gala event was filled with entertainment hosted by David Mbeha from Namibia (TLC Next Great Presenter2015) and Mwaka Mugala, lead actress in Zambian telenovela ZUBA.  It showcased vibrant acts by CircusZambia, including traditional dancing, LED stilt walkers, fire jugglers and everything in between. 

The main show featured a number of top rising artists from countries across the Southern Region who were mentored by esteemed industry expert, Mr. Jeff Sitali.  Their performances depicted stories through song, acrobatics, hip hop dancing and even a journey through human sound. The talented cast included Katiliana Capinoiça from and Bernardino Macosso from Angola, Katlego Ntirang aka Data Seiko (Botswana), Kufewa Acrobats(Malawi), twins Elton and Elson Dos Santos Macuacua (Mozambique), Aishe Lenge (Namibia), ProBeatz (Zimbabwe) and Chiedza Musipa (Zambia). 

Among others, the insert will reflect on the remarks made by Hon. Dora Siliya, Minister of Information and BroadcastingServices and Chief Government Spokesperson of the Republic of Zambia, who graced the launch as keynote speaker as well as Hon. Professor Nkandu Luo,Minister of Higher Education of the Republic of Zambia who officially welcomed the students into the Academy.
