This beautiful songstress has been serenading the masses with her immaculate voice for the past 10 years. Despite having no musical album to her name, Fifi Afrika is a seasoned lyricist who has steadily carved her own niche in the local music circles having performed alongside greats such as DJ Fresh, Daddy SKI and HT Tautona just to name but a few.

Her pristine and soothing voice always adds a Midas touch to every song she performs, which always leave her Sing-along audiences mesmerized and in awe.

As a seasoned Karaoke singer, Fifi regularly entertains crowds at two of Gaborone’s lavish hotels – Masa Square Hotel and the Grand Palm hotel. She is this week’s celebrity crush…

What do you like doing in your spare time?

Honestly, I enjoy just being home with family and friends, we love our backyard so I’m usually home in my “downtime” but usually learning and adding songs to my repertoire or being inspired to write my own, occasionally making cupcakes for the kids, making sure my plants are watered and screaming at our dogs for chewing through the plants.

Who is your celebrity crush?

None locally but that Tarzan guy, Alexander Skarsgård, oh my God and also Tom Hardy.

Are you single?

Nope, I’m married, been married for ten years now.

How would someone get your special attention?

By showing me beauty in anything. I love beautiful things.

What has been your best/worst date?

The best dateI have ever had never actually happened when I met my husband close to 11 years ago now, and I really wasn’t trying to start anything new then, partly on account of him being Umlungu (White person) but he asked me out to dinner.

I stupidly accepted his invitation then went on to try cancel last minute switching off my phone and pretending I was in Lobatse. He was relentless and again I’d been stupid and given him the approximate location of my house. I gave in after watching his car drive up and down my street for at least an hour then went outside to meet him. He’d bought and dozen tangerine-hued roses and CDs of all the albums. Bey had put out till then (coz I love her and everyone knows this)and apparently we’d missed out on his reservation at Primi Piatti. Worst date, none I can think of.

Would you date a fan?

No, I am happily married (to my biggest one).

What would you change your name to?

My name is Kefilwe Radovic, my unofficial middle name is Princess, which I went with as a stage name from 2007 till two years ago. I’m a Gemini and that in itself should explain I had no qualms about making the change to Fifi Afrika which has now stuck but my Sasha Fierce is – after careful consideration of this hypothetical situation, Karla. I like how it sounds. It’s Scandinavian and it means ‘Womanly strength’…and no…I did not know that before it came to mind.

What’s your biggest pet peeve?

Can I remain silent on this one?

What’s your most annoying habit?

I talk too much, although in my defence I am usually trying to give whomever I am talking to a quick template of who I am before they decide wrongly.

Do you ever get used to being a celebrity?

Ha-ha! Honestly,I do not consider myself a celebrity, at least not yet, to me being a celebrity means not just being physically recognizable but also having people just knowing and loving my work. I still have a bit to go. The other day I was walking into Gabz FM premises and a very pretty lady passed by in her car and said ‘I love you’ That warmed my heart, scared me, but warmed my heart. Its cared me coz people have an ownership of their celebrity and that kind puts a spotlight and a pressure on whatever you do…but do Ask me again when I am a celebrity though…this will be my answer…I will never get used to it, I have found another measure of happiness in doing what I do that also makes people happy.

Who is your source of inspiration?

I’d love to tell you the name of some celebrity singer or whatever, (I love beauty in general so I find myself enjoying a lot of peoples work) but the answer is as simple as my children, my two girls. The world always looked different to me after I met them both.

Do you speak any languages?

English and Setswana, and very little Serbian, even less French and a favourite phrase in Spanish is te quiero mi cielo - I love my Heaven.

Where would you like to visit?

I need to first cross Maun off of the list, yes I have indeed never been to Maun, then Venice, there’s just something about those gondolas.

If you were not famous. What would you be up to?

Eish, famous, if I weren’t singing so much…I’d be making cakes, I still do from time to time. I might also have been making clothes, which I also do for myself from time to time, or jewellery, or be a chef. I love working with my hands so I do a lot of DIY.

Who is the messiest person you know?

What’s the most interesting thing you have read or seen this week?

I read something about Steve Jobs’ final words.

What would you like to be remembered about you?

That I always did my best.

What message would you like to give to your fans?

You continue to share yourselves with me in a way that is so beautiful to me I will never feel worthy of it…I am forever grateful for your support, kind and generous thoughts…for you! “I am humbled, I am grateful for every soul that I have touched, don’t you understand that it has meant just so much…you’ll never know all the fear in my heart every time I went to hit a straight E flat6….” Lyrics in one of my new songs.
