Gaborone, Botswana: On 1st November 2018, MultiChoice Botswana hosted media at an exciting front-row experience to the brand new content which will soon make its debut across the DStv platform. The content showcase was hosted by Katlego Matlhodi Arnone and gave media an opportunity to learn about the array of local African content in store for the next six months.
The showcase also gave local content producers an opportunity to understand the requirements and processes involved in submitting content onto DStv. Speaking at the breakfast event, Arnone shared that “MultiChoice has always strived to bring our customers the best in video entertainment throughout the over 25 years we have been in Botswana,” Arnone commented.
“Our customers are our number one priority, and with the current continuous flow of content available through several media, we are excited that we are still able to entice our customers with exclusive sport coming out of our SuperSport offering, the newest Hollywood blockbusters on our M-Net movie channels, and of course, the rich African stories we produce and broadcast on our homegrown channels.”
Senior Manager, Content Strategy of MultiChoice Africa, Nwabisa Matyumza also took the stage to show riveting trailers of upcoming exclusive international series such as 1Magic’s (DStv 103) Happy Together starring Marlon Wayans Jr, to jaw-dropping content such as Mars, a NatGeo (DStv 181) documentary intermixed with sci-fi drama which tells the story of the infamous crew of travellers who journeyed to Mars on a mission of discovery.
The highlight of the content showcase offering, however, was the abundance of African homegrown stories such as “A Ke Tshabe Lekgoa”; a comedy series following the hilarious daily adventures of a Black South African woman living in New South Africa, which airs on Comedy Central (DStv 122), and Mzansi Magic’s (DStv 161) newest telenovela, The Housekeepers. On The Housekeepers, viewers get a dramatic view into the fictional lives of hired house help and the dangerous secrets they keep from their employers.
Of the various local African content airing on DStv in the next few months, MultiChoice has produced and/or commissioned 70%. “Our mission is to deliver value to our valued customers by making great entertainment more accessible. As a video entertainment company born and bred in Africa, we want to be the best African storyteller in the world, and at the same time, deliver the best local and international stories that resonate with Batswana,” said Arnone.
