GABORONE; Barclays Bank of Botswana will this weekend host renowned soccer legend, Jay Jay Okocha. Addressing local media today, the bank says it has proudly been able to reward its customers with exclusive, once in a lifetime premier league experiences – as the proud sponsor of the English Premiere League (EPL) since 2001.
As such the bank found it fitting to bring to Gaborone, Botswana the English Premier League legend, Jay Jay Okocha who will arrive in the country from Thursday, 19 October 2018 till Sunday, 21 October 2018.
Jay Jay Okocha is the third football star brought to Botswana by Barclays Bank in recent times after Robbie Fowler. The Nigerian soccer legend is former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. He was truly a quick and skilful playmaker, who is widely regarded as the best player of his generation and one of the greatest African players of all time. Okocha was known for his confidence with the ball, technique, creativity, and dribbling skills, as well as his use of feints, in particular the step over.
Barclays Bank of Botswana Managing Director, Reinette van der Merwe this afternoon said, “the EPL sponsorship offers us an incredible and unique opportunity to engage with both our current and potential customers and cement our credentials as an African bank with global reach”. The MD noted that as such Barclays will be running a Switch campaign which, is giving both current and new customers a chance to win a trip to the United Kingdom (UK) to watch a live premier league match in May 2019.
Additionally, Barclay’s customers will also stand a chance to win a VIP match viewing experience with premier league legend “Okocha” at the club house. During this tour, customers and fans will be given an opportunity to meet the football legend, where he will sign autographs and pose for pictures including selfies.
The Okocha tour will be completed with a coaching clinic at Maru-a-Pula school for youth from Stepping Stones International alongside the retired former Zebras legend Dipsy Selolwane. “This is a commitment by Barclays through its citizenship agenda to partner and support the youth through sport and edutainment.”
