Botswana Craft says preparations for the 42nd Mascom Live Session featuring the legendary Oliver Mtukudzi are already at an advanced stage! Slated for Friday, October 12 at Botswana Craft the show will also feature local guitarist, Kapenda Katuta who will open and warm up the popular Live Session with his inspired guitar renditions. Katuta originates from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and has been living and supporting the music industry in Botswana for over 16 years having arrived circa 2002.
The legendary guitarist has featured and contributed immensely to local music featuring predominantly in some of the country’s headline artists’ albums and recordings. “Katuta is truly a marvel to watch play his guitar. He’s truly gifted. He also has a great local band working with him, and we really look forward to his set.” According to the organisers, the Live Sessions started in 2011 when Mascom became the headline sponsor and put their weight behind the fledgling live music industry of Botswana.
Botswana Craft has been producing these live events alongside MI5 together with the support of The Voice and the Gazette newspapers, Duma FM radio and Travelodge. The legendary Zimbabwean and seasoned Mtukudzi has featured in Mascom Live every year since 2011, and he usually performs in October to open the “festive season”.
“All of Tuku’s shows at Botswana Craft have sold out, come rain or shine. Tuku appreciates that Botswana Craft has always delivered on his expectations and so he continues to bless us with his annual pilgrimage to Gaborone.” Furthermore, the organisers added, “As his schedule gets more and busier Botswana Craft also really appreciates that he continues to visit and share his music and grace with audiences here in Gaborone.”
“Come join us at this month’s Mascom Live Session: Feat. Oliver Mtukudzi & the Black Spirits alongside Kapenda Katuta, Fri 12th Oct from 8pm. Tickets sold in advance at Botswana Craft P300 each, single entry.”
