Motswana completes Kilimanjaro’s climb for cancer

Away from her daily banking career, a noble gesture by one Motswana, Duduetsang Chappelle-Molloy saw her hike to the summit of the 5, 895 meters of Mountain Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the highest in Africa as part of fund raising efforts to for the Happy Hearts Project.

Chappelle-Molloy has personally vowed to raise P250 000 for the Happy Hearts project in building a more than P 3 million home for children and their caregivers from outside Gaborone as there is only one paediatric  cancer centre in the country at Princess Marina Hospital. Happy Hearts is a project between Cancer Association of Botswana (CAB) and Ladies Circle Botswana (LCB).

Among corporates that supported Molloy includes Letshego Financial Services Botswana. They popped a total of P60 000 to help in her preparations and contribute to the ultimate success of the fund-raising efforts.

Fergus Ferguson, Letshego CEO for Botswana, said in regards to Duduetsang’s efforts, “We are proud to have assisted Duduetsang to achieve this amazing feat. It is our belief that with our partnership, the dream to build an interim home for children living with cancer in Gaborone will be achieved. We aim to continue supporting such incredible initiatives which go a long way in impacting our communities.”

In partnership with her organisation, Ladies Circle Botswana and Cancer Association of Botswana, Duduetsang aims to help raise a total of P3 million towards building of the Happy Hearts home. The project seeks to house children from outside the Gaborone living with cancer who are in need of secure and comfortable accommodation during their treatment periods at Princess Marina Hospital. Furthermore, both patients and caregivers will be provided with emotional, financial and logistical support during treatment periods.

Childhood cancer is a rising concern in Botswana and as Letshego we aim to continue supporting the government of Botswana and supporting organisations in the battle against the disease.
