The FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 hoo-hah is already in the air and Botswana as any other excited soccer loving nation would not want to be left behind. Just yesterday (Tuesday), Gaborone’s Masa Square Hotel (MSH) situated in the Central Business District (CBD) in Gaborone became a beehive of activity when the international brand, Coca Cola hosted the media and other stakeholders for the launch of the looming football fanfare which kick starts in Russia on 14 June – July 15, 2018.
Speaking at yesterday’s launch, Senior Coca Cola Brand Manager for Botswana and Namibia, Tamar Mbalo said the company has since time immemorial been involved in many football competitions with the world cup being their star event. Mbalo said even though they cannot take all their consumers to the impending soccer world cup, which is slated for Russia early next month they have since created competitions which include cash rewards and an assortment of freebies such as television sets for their consumers to feel closer to those consumers watching the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 spectacle live.
“The main purpose of this event is to launch the world cup promotions and competitions and further nurture our relationship with our consumers for supporting the biggest sporting event in the world. We have a long standing relationship with FIFA spanning many decades. As thus, these promotions will allow us to celebrate the world cup season and energize our consumers including even those who may not be enjoying the games publicly in Russia.
These wide-ranging competitions and promotions will accord them a closer experience to the world cup. I encourage our consumers to check all participating retailers to see how they can become winners with Coca-Cola. The euphoria has engulfed every football fan around the world right now and so has Botswana,” said Mbalo.
For his part, guest speaker at the launch and retired former national team, Zebras striker, Dipsy Selolwane who has in the past featured in several Coca Cola competitions both as an amateur and professional footballer expressed humble gratitude towards Coca Cola for its unwavering commitment in fostering the strength of football through various worthy sponsorships, both at grassroots and professional levels.
“The Coca Cola brand is highly recognized both here at home and abroad. Today, when one looks at all media links worldwide it’s the Russian world cup that dominates and this will surely be a big and glorious event. Football has and continues to unite hopes and anxiety for both players and fans the world over. I speak freely about football because I know what it has done for me personally. It overcomes a lot of things in life and it has carried me through over the years until now.
I’m lucky to have gone through all the stages of football both as a fan and professional footballer. I’m also thrilled to see my former Zebras players here today, having come to witness this launch, a humbling testament that football has created and united us to be one big happy family in the global sphere. I’m therefore humbled to having epitomized the Coca Cola brand before when I was a young kid playing in the Coca-Cola little league and also at a later stage in the elite league,” Selolwane explained.
Also at the launch was Botswana and Namibia Coca-Cola Franchise Manager, Moitshepi Sefako who extolled the combined efforts of both Coca-Cola and Kgalagadi Breweries Limited (KBL) for making today’s FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 launch a roaring success and making sure everybody gears up to the imminent soccer display.
Sefako said the promotion is a remarkable way of celebrating the world cup and further encourage consumer buy in and in return give back to the communities that have made their brand the biggest in the world.
