Local cats set Castlelite Unlocks ablaze

It was truly a historic moment when Africa’s most innovative beverage, Castlelite Lager through its bespoke regional festivals dubbed “Castlelite Unlocks” invaded Gaborone’s Stanbic Bank Piazza at Molapo Crossing this past Friday in a festival that was dominated by local hip hop acts.

Hosted by the duo of Gabs Diva and Mdu, the past weekend festivity is a buildup tour to the ultimate international show to be held at Johannesburg’s 20 000 capacity’s Ticketpro Dome in South Africa at the end of the month ( April 30th). The Joburg show will feature three times Grammy award-winning American rapper, Chance Tha Rapper alongside, Frank Casino, Speedsta and SA’s hip hop and official best newcomer Shane Eagle, while Nadai Nakai`s scintillating fusion of innovative rhymes and dancehall beats will bring that extra something to the stage.

The Friday “Castlelite Unlocks” hip hop dominated show had the likes of Dramaboi, Veezoview, Ban T, Yaw Bannerman, Bangu, Robbie Rob and Brando displaying solid and inspired performances before Frank Casino gave the local lads a run for their money.  Despite the low and disappointing turnout, it was truly an inspired show to attend. A mesmerizing highlight had to be the Yarona FM breakfast duo of Robbie Rob and Brando synonymous with their nom de plume ‘Stupid one and Two’, who were in their usual element with one on the decks while the other hyped the crowd with his hilarious prods.

The talented and versatile Dramaboi further proved why he’s a force to be reckoned with when he unleashed fierce and animated acapella skits to the merriment of his fans. Excited to have been included in the “Castlelite Unlocks” line up alongside other big heavyweights in his genre, Veezoview said he is truly grateful to the organisers, Kgalagadi Breweries Limited (KBL) for shining the light on the hip hop movement.

The multi-award winning local rapper said he has over the past years put an eye on the show and thus he’s truly excited that he was part of it this time around.  “It’s exciting to be here, we work hard everyday to put scintillating performances. We all saw that all guys worked hard on stage. Castlelite Unlocks is an international tour and to be included in it speak volumes of the work you put into your craft.”

Furthermore, Veezoview said he admires Dramaboi’s contribution to the local hip hop scene adding that he will be immensely happy to work with him in future. “Dramaboi is sheer talent and if tomorrow an opportunity comes that I work with him I will hit studio right away.”

Meanwhile, fans were truly let own when DJ Speedsta who took to the decks at 12 midnight could not perform as law enforcement authorities ordered that the show be closed immediately. The Friday show was attended by a few of the country’s socialites and influencers among them Hennymaps, chefs Kabo Olositse and Musa Mhlasi as well as news anchor Osi Lashane.

Nhlanhla Tshabalala, better known by stage name “Frank Casino” , was born & bred in the heart of Tembisa, Johannesburg. Though many would argue this because of his creatively international sound, Frank Casino is, in fact, a native of South Africa, with his musical history dating back to 2004. He was star headliner at Castlelite Unlocks Gaborone
