Miss Millennium on the cards

For the past 10 years, Millennium Jazz restaurant (MJR) situated in Mogoditshane has successfully held its annual and one-of-kind pageant dubbed Miss Millennium, and this year is no different. Organised by Zenzele Hirchfeld under Zen Promotions, the beauty pageant which is only open to women aged 40+ will take place again this year on March 23rd at its maiden venue in Mogoditshane, under the usual pomp and fanfare, and proudly powered by Mascom. As the event turns 10 this year, it was truly befitting to see Botswana’s leading mobile network, Mascom Wireless coming to the middle-aged beauty pageant’s rescue with a whopping P50, 000 cash boost.

“We are happy to be partnering with Miss Millennium and supporting the cause of women as well as one of Botswana’s many worthy causes. Our partnership is for a period of five years. Women need to be encouraged and supported throughout their worthy causes hence why as Botswana’s leading mobile telephony we didn’t hesitate to open our doors when the organisers of this pageant came knocking on our doors asking for sponsorship,” said Mascom Chief Communications and Public Relations Officer,Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego when unveiling the sponsorship at Millennium Jazz Restaurant recently.

Lebotse-Sebego added that her company would continue to encourage and support women-driven initiatives such as Miss Millennium, which as a result benefit the entire community as the crowned queens have over the past years come up with community-driven initiatives projects that impacted positively on society.

Addressing the media on Monday, Miss Millennium pageant organiser, Zenzele Hirschfeld said the pageant is a celebration of mature women over 40 years and also recognizes their role in the community. Hirschfeld could not contain her excitement at the news of receiving P50, 000 sponsorship from Mascom, adding that she is extremely grateful for the sponsorship and encouraged people to attend the event in large numbers so they can witness the growth and beauty that comes as a result of their marriage with Mascom.

“This year marks our 10th year anniversary of blood, sweat and tears of putting together this inspired middle-aged beauty pageant initiated back in 2008. I sit before you here today, as a proud organiser of having seen this pageant evolve over the years and positively impacting on the lives of many Batswana especially the middle-aged women and patrons of Millennium Jazz Restaurant. Miss Millennium has established itself as a unique pageant that focuses less on physical beauty but more on spiritual beauty,” said Hirschfeld this week.

According to the organiser, this year, attendees and Millennium Jazz Restaurant patrons will be spoilt for choice courtesy of the well-thought out parades – an inspired yet sexy funk where contestants will be decked with Mascom colours plus normal parade where Tebogo Mathiba’s song ‘Mosadi Thari ya Setshaba’ will take centre stage. Still at the event, Hirschfeld said her Jazz friends among them Nono Siile, Kearoma Rantao, Nnunu Ramogotsi, Trinity Mpho, Shanti Lo and Punah Gabasiane are expected to attend and serenade the masses with their soothing music and panache. Tickets will be on sale from Saturday, March 10th at Millennium Jazz Restaurant for only P50. 00 per person.
